So i've received the parts and am slowly progressing through the install.

my basement is approximately 2000 sf of which i use 1000 sf for my shop, the balance holds the furnace and partition for a "furnished" basement

so reading the various threads... venting outside, the concerns were:

1) gas fired furnace/hvac:
OK because noticed that both of my hvac machines have 3" pvc duct for air supply and exhaust, only concern is that the hvac intake is about 12~15' from where i plan to vent the cv1800...

2) hot water heater & pool water heater:
OK as same as above... both intake and exhaust is vented via 3" pvc piping.

3) supply for displaced air:
well, here's my thinking... if air is displaced from my basement, it will pull in air from the rest of my house, right? there is no doors leading to the basement stairs and its quite open at the moment...

so heres my questions:

1) dc vent located 12 ~ 15' from hvac air intake is too close for comfort?
i can always add elbow and raise the hvac intake if necessary and if it helps.

2) will i see any benefit of running the system with both filter and venting?
for example, tee off a 4" ducting to vent outdoors at the elbow bend right before the filter?

thanks again in advance

Albert,

Since no one has answered you in the last 24 hours, I'll jump in and give my advice. Unless your proposed DC vent is located upwind of your HVAC air intake, your proposed spacing should be fine. You didn't mention it, but I would size your outlet at 8" to reduce any significant cfm loss and maintain a strong velocity for the exhaust. If you want to run filters part of the year (I know it gets cold in the winter months in your state), use a CV Straight Transition (http://www.clearvuecyclones.com/supporting-products/40-clear-straight-transition-8-outlet.html) on the blower outlet (in place of the usual 90* transition for the filters), and 8" HVAC insulated flex duct (http://www.lowes.com/pd_56461-42471-LW56461_0__?productId=3193369&Ntt=duct&pl=1&currentURL=%2Fpl__0__s%3FNtt%3Dduct&facetInfo=) to go to your outside vent (keep as short a run as possible). When you want to change to using filters, move the flexible duct to the filters.

If you search through the CV Photo Gallery, you may find where a user has installed a Wye and blast gates to make this transition easier (I just cannot remember whose gallery I saw this).
