Hey, Just recieved a mini-clearvue cyclone. Aside from things that I would have made straighter if I had assembled it myself, looks good to go. Functionality wise, it looks to be just fine.

I'm going to purchase a shop vac to run with this, and wondered what kind of (cheap) vacuum I should look into purchasing to run with this. Is more always better? Is there a point of diminishing returns in regards to power?

We use a Rigid 6.5 peak HP shop vac to power our mini and it works good. It cost 139.00 at Home Depot. We have also tested it with a smaller vac and it worked fine. It didn't pull the chips down through the cyclone quite as fast and that could be a problem if you were cleaning up a pile of chips, but for sanding operations it worked great.

If you can wait until Black Friday, most of the do-it-yourself centers run one or 2 different wed/dry vacs on sale. I think the one Ed mentioned above goes on sale for 99.95 at times during the holidays. I have it and a smaller one for the house. Both have been really good shop vacs. Jim.
