I do not plan to use filters, but to vent outside. Can the transition be mounted so that it will point upward rather than downward? In this way it is easier for me to run exhaust duct up through attic to vent outside.

Steve, let's see if it will take my reply this time. I made my own transition out of wood. Copied the part on Ed's supplied transition for the filters, but made it straight. I then used an 8" metal wye coming off of that, that split into 2 6" ducts. These were connected to 2 louvered vents, like dryer vents, only 6" diameter, and exits the gable end under the soffit. It was an easier install that going up through the roof for me. I'll include a picture of the contraption I made before mounting it on the cyclone and hooking up the flex hose to the exhaust louvers. If you would like more pictures, I have a shop rehab thread over at the Family Woodworking Forum titled "Coolmeadow Creations Shop Tour" that is in the "Carpentry and Construction" section. I have pictures of the louvers mounted, as well as the exhaust contraption mounted. It works great. (Though I wonder what the neighbors across the creek to the north of me think of the noise!! :o
If you are thinking about using the supplied transition for the filters, if you can find a pipe that fits the outside of the donut, it should work fine. If not, either modify it, add to it, or build another one like I did. Good luck! Jim.
