I have just finished my new shop 16' x 24' and before i set up it up I would like to get a dust collection system and the more I read the more confused I get. It seems the cyclone with the poly cartridge filters is the best way to go or is it? My ceiling height is 8 ft. and I was looking at the 1800 if it would fit or maybe the next one down. I probably would use only one tool at a time but there be times a couple of people might want to work at the same time so I would like to have the extra power. Money is an issue but so is my health so I would rather buy one system that works rather that one that won't do the job. Please help with the model and what all I will need to get up and running. Thanks to all!:)

Big Kahuna,
Our CV1800 model is the one you need. I wouldn't go smaller (CV1400) as long as you have 8' of ceiling height. The CV1800 will easily handle the average machines is a hobbyist woodworking shop. It will even do a good job with several smaller machines (ones that work well with a 4" port like a jointer, 12 - 15" planer etc.) at the same time. It will become marginal if you try to run a table saw and a 20" planer at the same time. Both of these machines need a 6" port to work well and the CV1800 won't provide enough CFM at both of these machines at once. Hope this helps.
