All things going to plan I'll be making chairs mostly from my shop. Lots of lathe work.

I know how hard they are to pickup from, and most of my experience on the lathe unfortunately has been without DE altogether.

Looking for a good idea using PVC. Try and get it right first time.

appreciate any ideas. Thanks.

Jake,

Thought I remembered one in the galleries. Took me a while to find it again, but did, start here (http://www.gallery2.clearvuecyclones.com/v/CV1800+and+CVMax/Bill-Suckling/Hood_Open_001.jpg.html)

There may be others, but this is the one I remember.

DWD

Hi,

Here's (http://www.gallery2.clearvuecyclones.com/v/Dust+Hoods+and+Pickups/Eds+Shop/Lathe+1.JPG.html) another that is adjustable and works very well. If you go back a page there a few more shots of it and it's in the background in some of the other pictures.

Next time I am over with my video camera I will try and get dad to use it so you can see it in action. He's gone on a mini vacation til monday. I should be able to have one by tuesday if you are interested in seeing one if not it's just a rectangle to round transition that fits the 6 inch flex hose with adjustmenst for moving around. I am sure the adjustment part could use work as he has to looen 2 locks to readjust.....it'd be nice if you could just grab and move it and have it stay put but his works for him.

Thanks,

Matt

I loved to see a video of that in action. thankyou kindly.

Particularily like how you can get it right over straight from that 6" hose, and still see your work.

Have to make something similar.

The problem with CHIP collection is they go in the direction of the flute so that means behind you to the right and left. The best collection for that is a shower curtain surrounding the lathe.

What you do want to capture is sanding dust. For that I stick a 6" PVC coupler connected to flex off the main drop, as close the piece as possible. All the dust is capture.. Just remember to reverse sand. I currently have the coupler bungee'd to an off-feed stand so I can move it around or out of the way. Eventually, I'll get a real stand.

The chips are easily enough to sweep up and dump into my 20 gal can. My wife uses it in the garden to suppress weeds. If I tried to capture the shavings I'd be emptying the can every day.

Thanks Burt. I've never used a powerful extractor on the lathe before. I'm looking forward to all the dust being pulled away. I've only really ever used fans. Not much chop.

Hi Jake,

I am sorry that i haven't made the video yet and I hope you weren't waiting on me!! I have had the camera at the shop for about 3 weeks now and between the 2 of us we can't seem to get together and make one! If you got something made we'd love to hear what you came up with.

Hi Matt,

I haven't had a chance myself yet. works getting in the way, and my new sheds packed full of dust already. I still haven't even setup the cyclone. (have to build my awning first)

My big concern is finding a position for the intake, whilst not getting in the way at the same time. my use of the lathe has me grabbing the work with my left hand to steady etc. have to give it some thought.

but once done, absolutely, I'll take some pics. talk to you latter. ;)
