Hello,

I am looking at the ASTM 2729 type PVC for my ducting. My question is: will metal fittings work with the PVC pipe?

The reason I ask is, I have seen many floor sweeps made of sheet metal that I like as well as RAS hoods etc.
The other reason why I ask is because I want to buy pipe that fits common blast gates and other necessary fittings without special or serious modification.

Thanks in advance.

Nick

Nick, I've only used one junction of metal with 2729. It went into a short length of pipe with very little persuasion, and then I was able to marry that to a PVC angle piece. I have it on my router table. The metal piece is a 3 X 12 to 6" round transition I use for a side draft collection for the under base pick up. I did use a lot of silicone caulk around the joint to make sure it didn't leak. Jim.

Thanks Jim. I am curious what you used for floor sweeps...do you have any?

Here is another question: how are your vertical drops supported? I will have at least one drop in the middle of my shop for TS. Anyone have any quick type connections in open shop areas for mobile tools?
I plan on using one port for a planer, but it will not be stationary, that way I can move it against a wall when not in use. I did not want to have a drop in an open area that I would have to work around. What about an extra 'Y' and gate on the TS drop to hook in a flex when needed? May also be able to use this with one of those portable Grizzly sweeps.

Just want to have a clean looking system.

I have a drop for my TS in the middle of the shop. I designed it so that I have a home built blast gate as close to the ceiling as possible, the 4 corners have T-nuts on one side, and hex bolts on the other. The pipe goes down and curves to a sled on wheels that is strapped to the pipe. I can disconnect the flex at the end, undo the bolts at the top, and wheel the section to the side. I have done this two times when hail was supposed to be on top of us so I could pull my 3/4 ton van inside. Didn't hail either time.

That would work fine, just have your blast gates for both machines after the wye so you won't be pulling air through the table saw when using the planer. Although if the planer is a 4" hook up, the extra air moving might actually help move the wood chips up the 6" pipe.

I thought it would be easier to change the font color for my answers and insert into your message. I have a second drop for my BS that is a 6/6/4 unit. The 4" goes to the band saw, and the 6" gets used for the router table, and eventually for the jointer, as soon as I can make a hood for it to connect to! So yes, I think a wye for your planer off the TS drop would be fine. I don't have any floor sweeps at this time. I might in the future, and I'll just add a 6/6/6 wye off the drop for the BS, or off the drop to the multipurpose wall of cabinets, and have the sweep at the bottom of the cabinet. Jim.

Jim, I really appreciate your feedback. Very helpful!
I am ordering a CV 1800. Looking forward to setting it up...chances are I will have many more questions.

Good for you on the 1800!! No problem on any further questions. There are a lot of knowledgeable guys and gals here that are willing to help.
And there is a good thread here: http://www.clearvuecyclones.com/Bullentin/showthread.php?t=914 on things that might help to have for the install. DWD has some good information early on in the post. I have some thoughts down about post # 6 with some things I used on my install. I don't think the torque wrench is a critical thing for most people. I used it because I have a tendency to snap bolt heads off.
Anxious to see some pictures of your unit installed!! Jim.
