Default Transition intake

What to use when trying to hook up the dc to 6" pvc pipe. The diameter on my
intake is 6 1/2". Shouldn't the intake be closer to 6". Is this the proper size or do I have a one off and need to havwe it replaced?

I'd suggest that you use a rubber coupling (like this one from the Blue BORG) to make the connection (take your inlet piece with you to the store to check that it will fit). The piece will also provide for any small angular adjustment to your main duct run.

I'm not sure what it was designed for, but I slipped a short piece of 6" flex and it went just barely inside the ID of the transition.

of course I have since replaced that with a custom 8" transition. the stock square tube is 4.25x9 which is around 36 sq in. A 6" tube is only 28 sq in, so its slightly restrictive. 8" overshoots at 50 sq in, but I have some 8" ducting so the 6" inlet was only restricting (probably not much though).

It's pretty easy to shrink or expand the plastic clear vue fittings to fit anything. shrinking them is a bit easier since you only need a heat gun and a clamp (slowly heat while spinning the piece and tightening the clamp... dont forget to rotate the clamp around the pipe as it will usually deform the pipe right by the screw... rotating constantly and avoiding applying the heat right by the screw will avoid this entirely).

I changed the radius on a bunch of the clear vue transitions this way and it was really easy. just do it outside or with garage door open and a fan blowing fresh air in your face.

A short span of flex on the intake is a good idea even when using PVC. Pentz recommends this to reduce vibration and fan noise being transmitted to the ducting.

Unless things have changed from when I got mine, Ed built, my SD2729 is a nice fit inside the transition. No adapter needed. At 6 1/2" outside diameter, that should make the inside diameter about 6 1/4" since the PTEG is 1/8" thick, and the outside diameter of the 6" SD2729 I have measures right at 6 1/4, so it should fit nicely. SD3034 should be the same outside diameter as the 2729. Keep in mind, the inside is 6" diameter, not the outside. I think you'll be just fine. Jim.
