How are people making the transition from the plastic chute provided with your Clearview to their 6 inch spiral duct? Six inch flex pipe will not go over the more than six inch end of the transition piece. The spiral wire prevents it from being stretched that far.
Reading the forum I see that people are having trouble getting the flex to stretch over their PVC pipe and the outside of the transition chute from the Clear View is larger than PVC! |

While I use 6" PVC S&D (D2729) pipe for my duct, I have used one of these fittings for cases wher I may have slight size or angle differences to make connections. They are also made in transition sizes like 6" to 4" and they will stretch a little. Other installations have carefullly cut out the spiral wire in flexible duct for several inches and then heated it in very hot water to stretch it over ductwork.

The transition from 6" S&D to the rectangular transition is a bit tricky. I found that a short length of 6" S&D fit nicely into the transition that came with the unit. As we all have found, though, 6" flex doesn't fit over the 6" S&D very well.
I used my heat gun to soften the flex and stretched it as far on to the S&D as possible. I then used a high quality white duct tape to further fix and seal the connection. It isn't fancy, but it seems to work. I also sealed all transition joints with Alex Plus silicone caulk. One other thing to note is that you want to try to have five or six feet of straight or relatively straight pipe leading into the cyclone. Due to my high ceiling, I needed to have a slight bend in order to get to the distribution piping which is attached to the ceiling. The attached photo tells the story. |
