Are the only differences between the two units the fact that the Max has a 16" impeller and the cyclone intake has an 8" transition? Is the blower intake still 9" or is it larger? The Pentz cyclone spreadsheet shows no difference in blower intake or cyclone inlet. I'd love to hear from some of you CV Max owners.
Thanks! |

I believe so, but I never really read up on them when I bought.
The main reason I went with the max is that it allowed you to have two gates open and still moved plenty of air. I also have extremely long runs as my shop is 2000 sqft but only 25' wide so the furthest run is over 100' of pipe from the cyclone. And that gate still pulls a lot of air! You almost lose your hand in it. I've even temporarily attached a 25' length of 6" flex hose to that last gate to use as a vacuum of sorts and it still wants to suck your hand into it. Quite impressive!!I think it really boils down to how big your shop is and your setup. If you can afford the extra couple hundred for the max go for it, you definitely won't regret it as it basically gives you versatility. You only have to buy one length of 8" pipe and then branch down to 6" off of there. I opened all my ports up to 6" from 4" and ran 6" straight into every machine - at first it kills you to cut into your tools but to have all that airflow is well worth it. Now plugging leaks on the other hand... ugh! Find them and fix them before you clog your filters up a couple of times...

According to Matt the intake was increased to a 5" x 10" opening and the discharge tube was decreased to 8". He also mentioned something about the intake being a little longer.

Thanks for the info and the link to the thread, Alan. I was trying to figure why there was a $200 difference between the CV and CV Max cyclone body. It makes sense now as it has several upgrades, to the intake and the discharge tube, requiring more plastic and engineering. Thanks for the excellent information!
