Default Cyclone Leak?

Will someone refresh my memory?
I seem to remember that if one sees dust constantly swirling around in the lower part (just above the container) of a cyclone, it means that there is a leak somewhere?
Do I remember correctly??

Default Normal

Tom,

I, too, recall reading some discussion about stuff swirling about in the cone of the cyclone, but can't recall the thread. Best I recollect, this is normal. I know it is on the Mini, but don't have my large cyclone set up yet.

The indicator for leaks in the collection bin is that the bin gets emptied by the blower and thus all the chips and dust end up in the filters. So if your filters are OK and your bin's collecting dust, no worries.

Regards,

DWD

Default Normal?

I hope it is normal.
But it was not present when I first ran the cyclone with filters and ducting not connected. Only had the Parks barrel hooked up.
After connecting the ducting, the swirling dust in the lower part (cone) of the cyclone showed up. Strange.
Maybe Ed or Matt can comment?

Default Forum links, if it works

Tom,

That's fine if Ed or Matt want to comment, so please don't take this the wrong way, but I think they already have. In case the links don't work, in the General (to be Organized) category, look at the threads "Dust Remaining in Cyclone" and "Dustbin Seal". You may have to change the thread display (at bottom) from "Last 100 days" to "Beginning". These two threads were on the 4th page of the alphabetical listing that followed.

Also, I used the search feature, top right, and input "dust swirl in cyclone", which displayed three threads. The first two were somewhat relevant, the second being the "Dustbin Seal" thread noted above. That thread contains Ed's reply to a question nearly identical to yours from some time hence.

Here's an attempt to include the links, we'll see if it works:

Default Dang!

DW:
The links worked just fine.
And I can't believe that I failed to use the search capabilities as you did.
I must have been having a senior moment that day.
Thanks for the great post.
