Using Metal Pipe

I see from the galleries that some are using metal pipe.

There are pros and cons to use of both metal and plastic. Not to discuss that.

I wanted to ask, for those who have used METAL PIPE, what has the experience been like? Specifically:

Noise - is this a problem? How have you made the metal pipe quieter? I see some photos in the gallery show pipes insulated.

Sealing - always need to silicone?

Paintable - I like the white look of plastic, has anyone painted their metal pipe white?

My ducting and Cyclone are all metal (See Pic) and you do sometimes hear the larger chips traveling along the metal ducting and swirling around the cyclone. Most of the time I dont really notice any noise I think the noise coming from the machinery and the blower for the cyclone are louder than the chips traveling through the duct work.

The cyclone is probably where most of the noise comes from as the chips and dust swirl around the main cylinder working its way down the cone.

As for sealing the joins, once I joined the two bits of ducting together I used Aluminum foil tape to seal it. (See Pic)

As for painting metal ducting it can be done but you would need to treat the galvanised metal first to allow the paint to stick to it.
