Dust Collection Systems for Woodworking Shops

High-performance cyclone separation that captures 99% of sawdust and chips — keeping your shop cleaner, your air safer, and your filters lasting longer.

The Dust Challenges in Woodworking Shops

Woodworking shops generate large volumes of airborne dust and wood chips from cutting, sanding, planing, and routing operations. While larger chips are easy to capture, the most dangerous particles are the fine airborne dust created during sanding and milling.
Fine wood dust can remain suspended in the air for hours and quickly spread throughout a shop. Over time, this dust coats machinery, settles in ductwork, and creates respiratory hazards for workers.
In busy woodworking shops where multiple machines operate throughout the day, dust production can quickly overwhelm small single-stage collectors. Effective dust collection requires high airflow, efficient separation of chips from air, and filtration capable of capturing extremely fine particles.
Without a properly designed system, dust continues to circulate through the shop, reducing air quality and increasing cleanup time and equipment maintenance.

Fine wood dust particles under 10 microns can penetrate deep into the lungs and cause permanent respiratory damage with prolonged exposure.

Why Traditional Dust Collectors Struggle

Insufficient airflow to support multiple machines

Filters clog quickly when large chips reach the filter media

Fine dust passes through standard filter bags

Performance drops significantly as filters load with debris

When chips and dust reach the filters prematurely, the system increases static pressure, impacting airflow and becoming ineffective at capturing fine airborne particles. This is why many shops experience constant dust accumulation even when using a collector.”

How Clear Vue Cyclone Systems Solve These Problems

Clear Vue Cyclone systems are designed to separate 99.9% of chips and fine dust from the airflow before the air reaches the filters. The Clear Vue systems are designed to protect the filters; separation dramatically improves efficiency and prevents premature filter clogging. The EF5/CV1700&CV1950 cyclone systems delivers high airflow capable of supporting multiple machines within a shop environment.

Cyclone separation that removes the majority of chips before filtration

High airflow performance for capturing dust at the source

Fine filtration capable of capturing extremely small particles

Consistent airflow that maintains performance over time

This approach keeps filters cleaner, maintains stronger airflow, and removes both chips and fine airborne dust from woodworking environments.

Machines That Generate Dust in Woodworking Shops

Each machine requires sufficient airflow to capture dust directly at the tool before it becomes airborne.

Typical Dust Collection Setup

In most woodworking shops, a centralized dust collection system connects multiple machines through ductwork. The cyclone collector is typically installed with ducting routed to each machine. 4-inch to 6-inch diameter ducting is standard in my residential applications, controlling the performance of the CFM/airflow. Blast gates isolate airflow to machines in use while maintaining strong CFM. Proper duct sizing and airflow design are critical to maintaining a high CFM by controlling static pressure, impacting dust captured across the entire shop.

Why Woodworking Professionals Choose Clear Vue

Engineered to outperform traditional dust collection in every measurable way

Better Airflow Than Many Small Collectors

Our cyclone systems deliver the high CFM airflow needed to capture dust effectively at the source across multiple machines in your shop.

Superior Chip Separation Before Filtration

Cyclone separation removes the vast majority of chips and debris before they ever reach the filters, preventing premature clogging and performance loss.

Long Filter Life Due to Reduced Debris Loading

Because the cyclone removes chips before filtration, your filters last significantly longer and require less frequent maintenance or replacement.

Improved Air Quality Throughout the Shop

Combined with high-efficiency Wynn nano filters, our systems capture fine particles as small as 0.5 microns, keeping your shop air safe to breathe.

Recommended Dust Collection System

The EF5, CV1950, and CV1700 cyclone systems are well-suited to woodworking environments where multiple machines generate significant dust volumes. With strong airflow and high-efficiency separation, the EF5, CV1950, and CV1700 delivers the performance needed to keep woodworking shops cleaner and safer.
Innovative design and manufactured by Clear Vue Cyclones in the USA, the EF5 features all-metal construction, while the CV1700&CV1950 made with high-impact clear plastics, paired with Wynn nano filters for MERV 15 filtration — the same standard used in hospitals.

Understanding Dust Hazards

Wood dust presents both respiratory and safety concerns. Fine particles can penetrate deep into the lungs, and prolonged exposure has been linked to serious health conditions. In addition to health risks, accumulated wood dust can create combustible dust conditions in enclosed shop environments. Capturing dust at the source and maintaining clean airflow are essential to keeping a safe woodworking shop.

Peer-reviewed medical studies show that every exposure to fine dust particle material created by woodworking causes a measurable loss in respiratory capacity. Some of this loss becomes permanent. Effective dust collection is not optional — it is essential for long-term health.

Woodworking Dust Collection Questions

What airflow is needed for a woodworking shop dust collector?
Most machines require substantial airflow to capture dust effectively. A centralized cyclone system provides the airflow needed to support multiple tools.
Cyclone collectors separate large chips before filtration, which helps maintain airflow and extend filter life.
Yes. High-efficiency filters capture the fine particles that remain after the cyclone separation stage.
